Soleus Transposition for Treatment of Chronic Osteomyelitis of the Tibia with Pretibial Skin Defect.

Abstract

|
|
The management of chronic osteomyelitis of the tibial diaphysis is difficult because of the problem of removing necrotic and infected bore, avascular and infected scar tissue, or both, obliterating the dead space resulting from the disease or following surgery, and providing adequate skin cover. The diverse method of treatment signify current dissatisfaction with any single method. We encountered such a difficult case, chnonic cstecmyelitis of the tibia with skin defect, and successful results in 6 patients were obtained by soleus muscle transposition and delayed skin grafting.
